My name is Mrs. Abernathy. I have experienced 16 years in education. I have served as a teacher in middle school and high school. I have served as an assistant principal for 9 years and a principal for 3. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education from Appalachian University, Masters of Arts in School Administration from Gardner Webb University, and an Education Specialist degree from the University of Greensboro. I have worked with many federal grants such as the Smaller Learning Communities grant and the Impact V grant.
My vision for Valdese Elementary is to empower teachers to be leaders and to create a learning environment that creates students that are ready for a changing world. We have utilized funds to increase the amount of resources and technology that is accessible to your student.
Our focus this school year will be on technology integration, improving literacy, and vertical alignment with the Common Core. I feel very blessed to serve as principal in the Valdese community.
Valdese Elementary School has increased in their performance over the past two years, we will continue to increase due the hard work of our staff and parental support.
